The Batuwangala hydropower plant was underwent its first major maintenance under the supervision of Practical Action Yesterday.Mr.Rohitha Ananda and Mr.Gihan sajeew Mathawaranaarachchi from Practical action participated for this event.First task was to change the Power generating motor with new generator. The first day was a heavy raining day.But the crew did not stop.By the end of mid night we could establish the Generator. The electricity we used from the first generator was approximately 450W.But with this new one the power we generate has increased to 720W.Mr.Rohitha Ananda Explained to the students of Batuwangala maha vidyalaya the process with his equipments and the amount of watts we used at that monument.
After the generator installation they removed in to the second main task of establishing Controller unit. This time we remove the controlling part circuit to the School premises so that student do not need to walk to the power house for daily maintenance. We highly appreciate Mr.Rohitha Ananda coz he discussed with the students of the BMV and took this decision. After installing the controller unit inside of the school they ran a complete power check up.The quality of power was very accurate. This was a fine example and evidence to the professional talent of Mr.Rohitha Ananda behalf of Practical Action.Take a look at the bellow picture of Fluke after we finished the maintenance process. Batuwangala Maha Vidyalaya, ClC center Started this project with Practical Action last year. Batuwangala Maha Vidyalaya CLC center experienced difficulties to pay for electricity.Mr Rohitha, From Practical Action programme Came to help us.From that very first day Practical Action and Mr.Rohitha Ananda wanted us to step in to the light. We would like to Thank Practical Action for bringing the light to our innocent village children. Using this power supply ,The computer lab may operate more than three computers. We believe that this will be a sound Experience to the youngsters in the village. They are observing the process of how to generate electricity from the Hydro power. All So Mr.Rohitha Explained each and every step to the BMV students. Also we would like to thank the villages of batuwangala for their social support.

Traditionally, farmers used the conventional technique to run the paddy field. Water buffalo was commonly used to help to plough the muddy paddy field because of its nature habitat that adapted so much to the wetland condition. But now a days water buffalos are rare (something we have to think back before they extinct or to be viewed at the zoo) to see using for ploughing. The first step in this process is to prepare the soil.
Youth does not response to plouging like their elders did. But it is nice and important they attend in farming. In Batuwangala farmers have started their new term of cultivating paddy. The area strictly depends on cultivating tea but the small scale paddy farming is also evident. These images are from Batuwangala evillage children.
